Fun, Amazing Week (EOTC)

Kia ora readers, welcome back to my blog,

Today I'm going to share three highlights of EOTC (Education outside the classroom) also some things I learnt. 

On Thursday we went to Adrenalin Forest and Spencer Park. My group was at Spencer Park for the first half of the day then we swapped. I was not that confident but I gave it a try and completed level one. We had to put a harness on then we watched some demonstrations. My half of the group tried a zip line then we got right into it. 

On Friday we went to Mega Air, swimming and Top Team Competition. I went swimming and went to Mega Air also. I did try some of the activities on Top Team Competition. I enjoyed playing quoits the most. Then it was the weekend. 

On Monday we went to Rolleston and did Roller Skating at Selwyn Sports Centre

(Phat Sk8). I tried my best, fell over once and got straight back up. 

On Tuesday we went around town doing The Amazing Race that some people have seen on TV. It was fun. Even better we went on a tram! 

On the last day (Wednesday) we went surfing! There is four different ways to surf. There's the motor bike where you sit at the front and have your hands and arms at the front, the one where your stand on two feet and normal surf. The other one is do the same motor bike but backwards and the last one is called Coffin, you just stay lying down on your back. We swapped with the other group and went on the beach to play games. After that we went back to where the bags were. We got on the bus, came back to school and went home. 

My favourite activity was Adrenalin Forest because when I next go there I will do level two.

A day at the beach

This term we have been learning to write narrative stories. The purpose of a narrative is to entertain the reader
First we had to make a narrative writing template
Then we had to put all the planning into a story
We had to include setting,charters,build up events,story,narrative,ending,problem and a resolution
One of my favourite sentences is when I checked my wallet and I had thirty dollars
One thing I could improve on is my story because it needs to be more entertaining. Here is my narrative writing.

A Day At The Beach

One day as I strolled down the street at 12:00, I recognized a girl standing by a

telephone. She was calling for someone to go swimming and also she was trying

to find a friend. 

The following morning, a mermaid was waiting at the beach with a bright, blue,

clear sky. She glimpsed at me, then the mermaid whispered “hello.” I jumped and

mumbled “hello.” I didn't know what else to say so then she smiled at me and then

I smiled back. Then she asked, “Do you want to go swimming with me?”

I yelled “Yeah sure!” then the mermaid sang out “Let's go then. Come on in!”

'“I’ve gotta go home and get my togs then I'll be right back.” I called as I was

quickly rushed to my house.

When I got back to the beach, she yelled as I came back “Are u coming in?”

“Umm, umm, I can't,” I moaned sadly as I rushed towards her. She cried,

“Why can’t you come in? Please. Please.” “No! I don’t have any swimming togs.”

When I walked away. 

Two hours later when I was at home, I thought of an idea to make this better.

I went into my room and checked my wallet. I had $30. I had just enough for a pair

of swimming togs so I ran to the supermarket. I rushed in the store and I strolled

through looking for a pair of colorful togs. “Ah ha! I found them. Yay, yay, yay!”

I got them then I ran all the way back to the beach. When I got there, she was gone.

I shouted “I’m back!” and I could feel the dry warm sand on my feet. 

“I rushed and bought some togs so that we could go swimming now.”

I yelled so she came up and she mentioned “you really did” so we went swimming

then we went to get ice cream. It was delicious. We strolled back and we were

playing tag and running in the water. It was SO fun! I felt like I was in a dream.

We are friends for life. That was the end of that amazing story.

                                           The end!

Do you know how to be safe in the water

Welcome back to my blog 

In reading we are learning to use prior knowledge and knowledge gained from texts to learn about water safety. Gryffindor read 2 or 3 different texts and I learnt that you need someone to go swimming with and do not go swimming after you have done drugs or alcohol. We had to make a poster digitally about water safety. Here is my poster. One thing I think I did well was using different pictures. One thing I could improve is my layout.

This after I am going to be showing you my Te Ngahere slideshow. What we have been doing for topic is our Te Ngahere. In our classroom we are now Piwakawaka. We have been learning about the layers of the forest and different New Zealand Native birds. We also have done a classroom name that relates to the New Zealand forest layers and have learnt a whakatauki. We have also learnt about the importance of the forests. Today we have just done our 321 work. We have learnt many different things on our slide. We also learnt about a tree in the New Zealand forest where the Native birds in NZ live there, which was distinguishing features.

On Friday our class ran assembly. We are learning to know how to write a recount for writing. So I am going to tell you what happened for our assembly on Friday.

On Monday, we began to create our play and assembly.  The class hadn't done a play in a long time and wanted to make one together. Mrs T and the class  really wanted to do a class play too. Some people wanted ti be in the play others didn't. Some people created the assembly slide and script. 

I didn't want to be in the play cause i wanted to be a helper and did some of the signs and gave out the signs and picked them up and ran across the hall

Almost swallowed by a whale!

 Hello there reader!

Welcome to my whale writing.

 We have been learning how to write a recount .As year 6's we need to say who, why, what, where, when and how. They are told in first person (I) and are told in past tense.We have been focusing on using dialogue, emotions and strong vocabulary. we watched a video about a diver almost getting eaten or almost here is a link  almost got Swallowed

Here is the interview that I wrote, imagining I was the diver and telling my recount of this experience.

Interviewer: What are you taking photos of before you got in the mouth of the  whale?

Diver: I was taking photos of the sardines in the ocean because there was a sardine

run and we do the sardine run every so often or once a year in the sardine run

bryde's whale also sharks come and eat the sardines the bryde's whales a from south africa.

Interviewer: before the whale grabbed you, did you see coming towards you?

Diver:I was looking the other way then I looked back to take a photo of the sardine and

then suddenly  I was in his mouth and I calmed down. I calmed down because I didn't want

to get eaten or swallowed. Then he spat me out.he spat me out because they are only able

to swallow a squid whole and not humans. We are way too big if that big sharp whale had

eaten me and then he/she could swallow me  so I went back up and took a photo of the

whale so it was a big shock for me. The whale was big and amazing.

Interviewer: What has this experience taught you? 

The experience  taught me to stay calm. I can't get swallowed because I am too big

to fit down his throat but I will keep going to the ocean and will continue to take

lots more photos with the sardines and with a picture of the whale.
